The World of Toys

From the day a child is born, he or she is given toys. So, what is it about these things that make us happy? I believe that toys take us mentally away from reality and allow us to live our dreams. Either it is the newest Gi Joe doll or a Barbie, these straightforward pieces of colored plastic are our own personal Disneyland. Our imagination runs wild and it is the color figure of that G.I Joe that fosters this creative power. Can you visualize a world void of toys? surely a world without Barbie, Ken, Lego and so forth, is inconceivable as these useless pieces of plastic, etc are as foremost to children as are their parents. The world of toys is an curious one and it is a world that never seems to stop evolving. The playthings our parents had and what kids play with today have drastically changed. Today children play video and computer games for hours on end. These games do help with a child's hand-operated dexterity but can also stifle a child's ability to imagine.

The movie series Harry Potter is a prime example of our imagination being stifled. When a child (or adult) read the first Harry Potter book, his or her imaginativeness was set of fire by the words in the book. The way Jk Rowling described Hogwarts School, gave each of us a dissimilar vision. This is the charm of the human imagination. However when the first movie, in the Harry Potter series was released, suddenly our entire individual creativeness morphed into one. What we saw on the screen was the imagination of the director, set designers and other such people. From that point on, all of us have the same preconceived thoughts whenever a Harry Potter movie hits our local theaters - our individual imagination, "stolen" by Hollywood. The movie manufactures in its impatience to cash in on the Potter phenomenon ruined the imaginations of many. It would have been best if Hollywood had waited until the entire Harry Potter book series had been published before manufacture the first movie - alas greed won.

Fortunately our creativeness can not be taken by the entertainment industry, God knows they try however. If a child plays in the plays in his or her backyard with a doll or wearing cowboy suit, he or she is in their own world and no one should enter. This play is fostering creativeness and without creativeness the world would surely be a boring place. Thank God for toys.
